UCPN-M urges SC to reverse order

Okhaldhanga, January 21

Unified CPN-Maoist Okhaldhunga has demanded that the Supreme Court reverse its order against former lawmaker Balkrishna Dhungel.

The party, holding a press conference in Dhungel’s home district Okhaldhunga today, decided to call on the apex court to reverse its order of life imprisonment with confiscation of all property against Dhungel.

UCPN-M Okhaldhunga chairperson Baburam Gautam accused the court of trying to implicate heroes of the people’s war. “In fact, it’s unbecoming of a court of such stature to dig into case of political nature like this time and again with the intention of implicating leaders of the revolution,” he said.

He further added, “We’ll first draw the attention of the party leadership and the government in this regard, and failing that, we won’t hesitate to start a stern agitation.”

The court on January 8 had issued the order against Dhungel for the murder of Ujjan Kumar Shrestha of Okhaldhunga by upholding its previous verdict.
