KATHMANDU: Members of general public and political leaders have expressed their condolence over the demise of former Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress (NC) Sushil Koirala on Tuesday.

Many have taken to  social media accounts to express their shock and sorrow over the veteran leader's death. Twitter and Facebook are abuzz with condolence massages after the news spread in the early morning. 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa expressed his shock on Twitter over the news, and wrote that the country has lost a good leader.

Dahal calls up Paudel

UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal also extended his tributes to late Koirala.

Dahal, who is in Dhankuta district for the party's work, telephoned NC Vice-president Ramchandra Paudel and expressed his condolence.

Koirala's demise is an irreparable loss to the Nepali Congress party and the entire country, stated Dahal  during his phone conversation to the Paudel. Dahal will be returning to the Valley  cutting short his programme, according to the Maoist party.

UCPN-M Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha also paid tribute to Koirala, also hinting that he was also suffering from swine flu.

Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala died of cardiac arrest after suffering from a bout of pneumonia in the wee hours of Tuesday morning , according to family sources. He was 76.
