UDMF announces first phase protest

KATHMANDU, July 9

United Democratic Madhesi Front on Thursday announced its first phase protest programme against the draft constitution between July 11 and 24.

According to Sadbhavana Party General Secretary Manish Kumar Suman, the front decided to hold its meeting on July 11 in all Tarai districts and a rally with placards in Kathmandu on July 14.

Similarly the front will take put procession and hold corner meetings on July 17 in all the Tarai districts and protest rallies in electoral constituencies on July 18-19.

The front will organise a mass meeting in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj and Bhairahawa on July 21, 22, 23 and 24 respectively, which will be addressed top leaders of the front.

The front will announce its second phase programmes after the first phase gets over.

According to a UDMF source, in the last meeting of the front, SP Chair Rajendra Mahato emphasised the need for a broader Madhesi alliance to steer the movement, but Federal Socialist Front -Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav and Tarai Madhes Sadbhavana Party-Nepal opposed the proposal.

According to the source, Yadav said the front should not induct those parties that do not have good image in society and those who extend support to the government.
