BIRGUNJ: Cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) torched a truck and vandalised five other trucks in Bahuari Chowk of Birgunj on Friday.

According to police, the trucks were heading towards Kathmandu after loading sugar from the Prasauni-based Reliance Sugar Mill of Bara when the incident occurred.

Police informed that the cadres torched the truck bearing registration number Na 4 Kha 3584.

The frontal part of the truck was damaged in the arson.

According to eye witnesses, locals had robbed the sugar sacks of three trucks following the incident.

After the locals started to rob the sugar, police had reached the incident site and fired seven rounds of bullets in the air and lobbed some tear gas shells.
