UK minister concerned about political unrest
Kathmandu, November 25
Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom Hugo Swire called Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa and expressed serious concerns about the impact of the border blockade on supply and distribution of humanitarian assistance to Nepal.
They held positive and constructive discussion on November 19, according to a press release issued by the Embassy of United Kingdom in Nepal.
Swire assured Thapa of the UK’s continued support and friendship for the people of Nepal.
“The UK is clear that the political situation in Nepal is ultimately for Nepal to resolve. The UK hopes peaceful dialogue and compromise will continue so as to find an agreed position that meets the needs of all Nepali citizens,” added the release.
Swire urged the Government of Nepal to provide the leadership required for the reconstruction process.
“With winter approaching, there is risk of a second humanitarian crisis if the situation is not resolved shortly,” read the release.
