UML cadres shut down Kalikot
Kalikot, March 13:
Kalikot remained tense throughout the day today on the second day of the indefinite bandh called by the CPN-UML’s district committee, to protest the killing of student Raj Bahadur Malla.
Malla, an 11th grader at Surkhet-based Jana Higher
Secondary School and a resident of Pakha-4, was an ANNFSU supporter.
The bandh paralysed normal life in Kalikot. All government offices, educational institutions and market places remained closed. The Karnali Highway also remained obstructed due to the bandh.
The agitators also vandalised a vehicle carrying Nepali Congress CA member Tulasi Subba and Maoist CA member Buddhiram Gurung for defying the bandh.
The CA members were a part of the CA teams deployed to collect public opinion on the new constitution.
Relatives of the victim have accused YCL cadres of killing Malla. They claimed that
YCL cadres led by Padam Bahadur Rawat ‘Tiger’ had attacked Malla with Khukuri and knives on Monday.
The agitators have been demanding strong action against the guilty. They have also demanded the government to declare him a martyr and provide appropriate compensation to the family of the victim. Malla’s body was cremated today.
