‘UML has no choice but to agree to statute amendment bill’

Damauli, January 1

Senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel today said that the main opposition CPN-UML had no choice but to come on board the statute amendment process sooner or later.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Nepal Press Union, Tanahun, in Damauli, Paudel said, “The UML has become positive about the amendment and has no alternative but to join the amendment procedure.”

He urged the UML to remove the obstruction at the Parliament and allow the House business to move ahead smoothly. “All the political parties should come together to pass the amendment bill to give a way-out to the nation,” Paudel added. He stressed unity among parties that had stood together during the promulgation of the new statute.

Paudel held that holding the local polls as per the existing structures was acceptable to his party as all the major parties were not satisfied with the work of the State Restructuring Commission. He directed the party rank and file to be prepared for the polls as election might be announced at any time.

Paudel argued that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal should change his modus operandi and work a lot harder. “A person who waged an enormous agitation should be doing a lot,” Paudel added.
