UML has no future: ANNFSU deserter

Kathmandu, May 22:

A former central leader of the pro-CPN-UML student wing today said UML was against a republican set-up and the Constituent Assembly election.

All Nepal National Free Students Union former central leader Surendra Basnet, who has now joined the pro-Maoist student wing ANNISU-R, claimed that CPN-UML has no future.

Addressing a function organised today to welcome student leaders who recently joined the ANNISU-R, Basnet said, “We have not deserted CPN-UML, but the party has deserted us by deviating from the true ideals,” he said, adding that the leaders want to change the name of the party to “Social Democratic Party”.

Thirteen student leaders who joined ANNISU-R, including Basnet, another ANNFSU leader Tara Karki, vice-president of Free Students Union at Tribhuvan University Central Campus, Kirtipur, Prakash Neupane and vice-president of ANNFSU (Unified) Mohan Timilsina were felicitated at today’s programme.

Addressing the function, ANNISU-R president Lekhnath Neupane expressed serious concern about the statement of an ANNFSU leader at Ratna Park yesterday.

“The leader had said the ANNFSU would begin collecting money to compensate Prachanda’s family after murdering him,” Lekhnath said, adding, “We have taken this statement very seriously.”

Ongoing protests related to the death of Ramhari Shrestha are the result of defeated mentality of the other parties after their shameful defeat in the election, he said.
