UML ready to lead unity govt: KP Oli

Kavre, August 8:

CPN-UML standing committee member KP Sharma Oli said today that his party was ready to lead the national unity government if other parties agreed.

Inaugurating a two-day CPN-UML Kavre district council in Banepa, Oli said the UML will

not give up its claim for the Home Ministry.

“Democratic republic will be institutionalised and peace will be restored if the UML leads the government in the transitional phase,” he claimed.

He said Maoist chairman Prachanda’s remark that they withdrew support for UML’s presidential candidate Madhav Kumar Nepal because the UML wanted the Home portfolio was baseless. We did not demand any portfolio during the election, he said.

“A government without a two-third majority cannot make decisions on important matters,” Oli said, adding that new government will be formed within a few days.

CPN-UML standing committee member Keshav Badal said that a government headed by Maoist

chairman Prachanda would have been formed by now if the Maoists had not labelled other parties as losers.

The Maoists would lose another opportunity to form the government if they did not give up illegitimate demands, he said.
