UML says no to statute amendment for second phase polls

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has accused the ruling parties and the government of trying to influence the first round of local level polls through the misuse of state agencies.

Issuing a press release after the meeting of the party's standing committee on Wednesday, UML also urged the government and the Election Commission to promptly hold the second round of polls.

Reminding that the first round of the elections were held as per the current provision of delineation and naming of the provinces, the party further stated that the amendment of the Constitution was not acceptable while the changes in the local bodies would certainly create confusion. "The amendment bill must be withdrawn," it said.

The party has also demanded to form a parliamentary probe committee so as to investigate the alleged incidents which took place during the first round of the polls.

The party has drawn the attention of the Election Commission saying that the launching of criminal activities and the abuse of the state power during the elections is the violation of election code of conduct, demanding necessary action against them.
