UN panel flays Maoists for exploiting kids

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child has condemned the use of child-soldiers and messengers in Nepal’s ongoing armed conflict. In its 26-page finding, the panel also voiced raised serious concern over the number of children killed in the conflict in the last nine years. It has accused the Maoists of using children as soldiers in as agents of destruction of physical infrastructure. “The conflict has had serious negative implications,” the report pointed out the Maoists were using children as messengers, informants, porters and even human shields.
