UDMF stages sit-in at Gaur offices against polls

RAUTAHAT: Cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front on Sunday have staged a sit-in in Gaur of Rautahat district, expressing their dissatisfaction over the local level elections slated for May 14.

The protesters staged the protest at the District Court and the District Election Office. Day-to-day activities at the offices were disrupted due to the protest.

Addressing the protesters, the Sadbhawana Party Central Committee adviser Devendra Mishra complained that the government crossed its limit of autocracy by announcing the local polls without meeting genuine demands of Madhesi people.

He further said that the agitating parties would not let the elections be held without solving the problems of Madhesi people.

Similarly, the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party district Chairman Babu Lal Sah accused the government of not providing rights to Madhesi people, who devoted their life for democracy.

The people were ready to deal with any kind of situation for achieving rights, Sah further said.

Slogans like "Local election is a deception", "we will not let holding the election without rights", "Chief Election Officer, go back" were chanted during the protest.

A large number of security personnel had been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
