Upendra Yadav 'purged', Mahantha Thakur made coordinator

KATHMANDU: The Federal Alliance on Saturday purged Upendra Yadav from its leadership, apparently for the the Yadav-led Federal Socialist Forum Nepal's  decision to take part in the local level elections before the constitution amendment, and chose Mahantha Thakur of Rastriya Janata Dal Nepal it's new coordinator.

A meeting of Federal Alliance chaired by Thakur was held at the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal's central office in Kathmandu to make the decision, according to a statement issued in the Federal Alliance's letterhead and undersigned by Mahantha Thakur.

It is, however, not clear yet other all constituents of the Federal Alliance were involved while making the decision.

The meeting concluded that Yadav "surrendered" and "betrayed" the issues of Madhesi, Tharu, Aadivasi Janajanti, Dalit, Muslim and other downtrodden communities by taking part in the local level elections, and decided to remove him from the Federal Alliance's coordinatorship, the statement said.

The Rastriya Janata Party Nepal was recently formed after the merger of six Madhesi parties that were constituents of the Federal Alliance.

The move is a reflection of struggle between the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal and the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, which has formed an election alliance and doing homework for unification with the Baburam Bhattarai-led Naya Shakti Nepal party.
