Vacant big posts to be filled anytime soon

Kathmandu, July 23:

The Constitutional Council (CC) headed by Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala is planning to start work in the next few weeks and fill vacant positions in several constitutional bodies.

“Members of the CC were appointed by the Prime Minister recently and it will start work very soon to fill the vacant posts,” a high ranking official at the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet told this daily today.

The official said a meeting of the CC will be held within the next three weeks as there is an urgent need to appoint the Chief Justice, Commissioners of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the chairman and members of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Auditor General.

“The appointments will begin from the NHRC and the CIAA,” the official added.

“The CC will start the work soon as Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel will be taking compulsory retirement on September 7,” he added.

The CJ and Speaker are ex-officio members of the CC. PM Koirala had recently appointed ministers Ram Chandra Paudel, Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Pradip Nepal as members of the CC.
