VDC secretary makes off with social security fund

Rajbiraj, May 6

VDC secretary Bindu Lal Chaudhary, of Manaraja in Saptari, has been absconding after he collected the social security allowance meant for the elderly and Dalit children.

Bindu had collected social security allowance of nine months released by the District Development Committee two weeks ago and has been on the run ever since.

Chief at the DDC’s registration section Harihar Chaudhary said Bindu did not distribute the amount he had collected. He added that he had handed over Rs 2,128,000 on April 1 to Bindu for distribution among the elderly and Dalit kids.

On April 25, as many as 200 elderly citizens had reached the district headquarters Rajbiraj and chanted slogans against the VDC secretary demanding action him.

A local, Dinesh Yadav of the VDC, accused Bindu of failing to organise the VDC council and being involved in financial irregularities. “Though we had drawn the DDC secretary’s attention to Bindu’s misdeeds, no action was taken against him,” he said. The villagers also accused the DDC of turning a deaf ear to their earlier complaints and encouraging Bindu.

Technical Assistant at the VDC, Dhirendra Yadav, has also been absconding along with Bindu.

Meanwhile, Planning and Administration Officer at the DDC, Dhirendra Kumar Yadav, said his office had written to the District Administration Office to search for Bindu. SP Bhim Prasad Dhakal said a police team was deployed to search for Bindu and Yadav.
