Siraha/Chandranigahpur, July 30:

Two freed from abductors.

VDC Secretaries’ Right Protection Forum has called for the closure of all government offices running under local bodies from today to protest the abduction of Bastipur VDC secretary Manoj Karki. Cadres of the Madhes-Tarai Mukti Morcha had abducted Karki on Saturday.

Siraha District Development Committee (DDC) office, offices of 106 Village Development Committees, Siraha and Lahan municipalities have been closed owing to the call. President of VDC Secretaries’ Right Protection Forum Jagadev Yadav said the indefinite bandh was organised to pressure the authorities concerned to get Karki freed.

Meanwhile, a police team today freed Birendra Gupta and Raj Dev Mukhiya, secretaries of Dharahari and Mahamadpur VDC, from the clutches of abductors. Identifying themselves as cadres of the Jwala Singh-led Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM-J), two persons had abducted Gupta and Mukhiya from Bhim Dabur VDC Rautahat district today. However, the JTMM-J has not owned up the abduction.

Sub-Inspector Makhan Raya Yadav said the two abductees were freed from the abductors at Bhim Dabur VDC-9.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa, the abductors had called the two for a meeting at Bhim Dabur VDC.

The abductors had also called secretaries of two more VDCs but they didn’t head to the venue.
