VDC Secys storing constitution draft at district headquarters

GORKHABAZAAR: Secretaries of different Village Development Committees (VDCs) in northern Gorkha have not taken the preliminary draft of the new constitution to the villages for feedback collection.

The secretaries, who received photocopy of the draft three days ago from the Draft Suggestion Collection Team that arrived in the district, have kept it in the district headquarters.

Although feedback of the people over the draft constitution should be collected after taking it to villages, it was kept in the district headquarters. The Secretaries did not take the constitution draft to Samagaun, Lho, Prok, Chumchet, Chhekampar, Sirdibas, among other VDCs in northern belt, citing obstruction of road due to landslide following the earthquake.

Secretary of Samagaun VDC Bed Prakash Dhakal said that they failed to take the constitution draft to the VDC for feedback due to landslide. Dhakal said, "I have collected feedback of Samagaun folks who I met at the district headquarters."

Some Secretaries however have claimed that they have collected the feedback through telephone.

Chief at the District-based Draft Feedback Collection Committee, Mahendra Prasad Sankhi, said that they have provided the constitution draft to 60 VDC Secretaries to take it to their respective VDCs.

A total of 1,800 drafts have been brought to Gorkha for the same, he added.

Lawmakers—Chinkaji Shrestha, Hitraj Pandey and Chham Bahadur Gurung— are at Gorkhabazaar to collect people's feedback on the constitution draft.

Similarly, former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai is scheduled to visit the district today itself.
