Vehicle ban on unauthorised roads hits locals
Ramechhap, August 20
The recent ban on operation of vehicles on unauthorised roads has dealt a huge blow to local commuters in Ramechhap.
Following the tragic accident in Kavre that claimed 27 lives on Monday, the government imposed a ban on operation of commuter vehicles with more than 8 seats on unauthorised roads, citing safety concerns.
Passengers have been affected after authorities stopped large commuter vehicles bound for Ramechhap and Sindhuli from the capital at Bhakundebesi of Kavre. Police are also stopping Kathmandu-bound buses from Ramechhap and Tarai districts.
Makhkhan Yadav, inspector at District Police Office, Ramechhap confirmed that they have banned operation of vehicles on unauthorised roads. Earlier, large commuter vehicles were allowed to freely operate from the district to a number of destinations, including the capital, Jhapa and Chitwan districts.
After the ban was imposed, light commuter vehicles such as motorbikes, jeeps and micro buses are the only vehicles allowed to operate on the routes. However, light vehicles do not have enough capacity to carry all passengers.
