Verdict on distillery case deferred

Kathmandu, March 7 :

The Supreme Court today failed to issue a verdict on a case filed by Shree Distillery Pvt Ltd challenging the Inland Revenue Office’s decision to impose a fine of Rs 87 crore on it for evading tax.

A division bench of justices Anup Raj Sharma and Rajendra Kumar Bhandari were divided on the issue. Sharma opined that it was not necessary to intervene in the decision of the Inland Revenue Office by the apex court, while Justice Bhandari suggested issuing an order as demanded by the writ petitioner. The case will be settled by a full bench comprising more than two justices.

Mohan Laxmi Maskey had filed the petition on behalf of the distillery one-and-a-half-years ago.
