Villagers raise money to light up village

Syangja, November 1:

Villagers at Thulahidi-6, Bharkot have been using their own resources to light up their village by extending the electricity facility provided by the Nepal Electricity Authority.

This became possible after one Ben Bahadur Thapa provided a sum of Rs 230,000 sent for him by his son in the US to the Electricity Users Committee, which collected additional Rs 551,000, including Rs 170,000 provided by the Thulahidi VDC and proposed the NEA Syangja branch for extending the facility to their village.

Dhruba Raj Poudel, the acting chief of NEA, Syangja branch, said the office has set up a 25 KVA transformer and distributed electricity to 40 households of the village through the one kilometre long main transmission line and three kilometres long distribution lines.

“The NEA didn’t spend any money for this project because it was all borne by the villagers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the villagers last week feted the technical team and NEA acting chief Poudel for helping light their village.
