Voter education training kicks-off in 34 districts: EC

KATHMANDU: The voter education training has kicked-off from Thursday in all 6,642 polling stations across 283 local units in 34 districts of province no. 3, 4 and 6 as the first phase of local level election takes place on May 14 in these areas.

The training was organised by the Election Commission of Nepal to educate eligible voters for deceasing invalid votes and encouraging the participation of as many as voters in the upcoming election.

The upcoming elections are being held after 19 years in the country, is taking place in two phases one on May 14 and another on June 14.

There are a total of 4,956,925 registered voters in these provinces who will be trained on how to properly cast their votes by the voter education volunteers and facilitators for three days, according to the ECN's Spokesperon Surya Prasad Sharma.

The distribution of the voters' identity card is also being undertaken in these places besides educating the voters.

There are altogether 14,054,482 registered voters across the country.

A total of 36,000 people's representatives will be elected in the both rounds of election while the first phase of election would see election of 13,556 representatives.

The silence hour comes into effect from tonight at 12 midnight which prohibits the political parties and candidates publicise here after.
