KATHMANDU: Police arrested a ward member for beating a person from Dalit community in Tinau Rural Municipality-6 of Palpa district on Sunday morning.

According to Inspector Devraj Paudel at Palpa District Police Office (DPO), Tinau-6 ward member Chunna Bahadur Bista thrashed Mohan Bir Nepali (51) of Masyam area in Tinau. Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim, police arrested Bista in line with the Caste-based Discrimination and Untouchability Offence Act.

In the FIR lodged at the DPO, the victim alleged that ward member Bista had beaten him up and used abusive and demeaning words, in a financial dispute.

Nepali sustained injuries in various parts of the body including eyes and neck.

Palpa District Court on Wednesday extended the remand of Bista for eight days for further investigation, informed Inspector Paudel.
