Baitadi, May 31:

Despite two drinking water projects in operation, the Baitadi district headquarter faces water crisis throughout the year. Located at over 2,000 metre above sea level, the district headquarter’s, Gothalapani (Gadhi), never gets enough supply of drinking water, forget about water for cleaning, washing and irrigation proposes, says a local businessman, Indra Prasad Bhatta. People can be seen crammed around public taps for drinking water. Two drinking water projects, each with a capacity to supply 40,000 litres a day, supply water to Gadhi area. The source of water for both the project is Dashrathchand Municipality, 7 km from the district headquarters. As the two projects could not meet the demand, a third project with similar capacity was initiated three years ago, but the project is in limbo due to financial crunch, said Harish Chand of Tripurasundari. The project officials, however, could not be contacted for comments.
