We shall move high court to free Resham Chaudhary, says Laxman Tharu

Dhangadi, March 10

Tharuhat leader Laxman Tharu today said the High Court would be moved against Kailali District Court’s verdict sentencing 11 individuals, including Resham Chaudhary, to life in prison.

Tharu, who spent three years’ jail term in the Tikapur carnage, had arrived in Dhangadi today.

On the Tikapur carnage, District Court Kailali had slapped life sentence on 11 persons including Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal lawmaker Resham Chaudhary. The court had issued three years’ prison term to 12 persons, including Tharu. Tharu was freed from the central jail Kathmandu after he spent term today itself.

Speaking at a press meet in Dhangadi, Tharu said Kailali district judge Parsuram Bhattarai had done what the political leadership could not have done. “I respect the verdict issued by the court,” he stated.

Tharu argued political parties and their leaders had not made any effort to comprehend the issues raised by the Tikapur carnage and the Tharu community. Despite being stunned and shocked by the verdict, Tharu said that he would move the high court against the Kailai District Court’s decision.
