At a time when discussions on the constituent assembly (CA) have been going on, some intellectuals today said they do not know what the CA is all about.

Speaking at an interaction on the CA, organised here by the Pro-Public, an assistant professor of the Prithvi Narayan Campus, Meena Gurung, said, “ How can the general public know what the CA is when we, the educated community, have not understood it?” Most of the speakers at the interaction expressed their ignorance regarding the process leading to the formation of the CA. People from different castes, communities and professions took part in the interaction.

“How can commoners know about the CA at a time when active members of the society do not know what it means?” Shashidhar Parajuli, of Pokhara- 3, said. Dilmaya Gurung, of Nayabazaar, Pokhara,

said, “I don’t know anything about the CA. However, I have heard that a Gurung will be candidate for the CA polls in the district where the Gurungs are a majority.”

A trainer on the CA polls, Surendra Thapa Magar, said it is necessary to make people aware of the CA.

“It is necessary to impart training on the CA to the general public and launch awareness programmes,” Radheshyam Koirala, of Pokhara-5, said.
