Why it’s not raining heavily

Kathmandu, August 2 :

For the past one week there has been a relative lull in the rainfall not only over Nepal but also in the Gangetic plains of India.

“The low pressure system emanating in the Bay of Bengal travelled through to Western India and Saurastra, leaving the northern belt high and dry but leading to downpour in Maharashtra and Saurashtra region,” says Bisnu Manandhar of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. He, however, hoped the trend could be reversed if the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal plays out favourably, leading to a wet spell in the week ahead over the parched areas of the northern India and Nepal.
