Wild tuskers kill four

Itahari, October 23:

Four persons were killed and three injured when elephants attacked them in separate incidents last night.

A wild elephant from the jungle of Panmara in Sunsari killed three persons in Panchakanya and Dharan.

Ganesh Bahadur Raut (45), a resident of Panc-hkanya-3, died while chasing away an elephant last night, said, Superintendent of Police (SP) at District Police Office (Sunsari), Yadav Raj Khanal.

Meanwhile, the same elephant killed two and injured three persons at Dharan-15.

Susma Bhujel (43) and Padam Maya Budhathoki (92) of Dharan- 15 were killed in an elephant attack last night, said SP Khanal.

Bhujel was attacked by the elephant near her house while she was returning after playing bhailo at 8.15 pm and died on the spot.

After killing Bhujel, the elephant attacked Subas Bista (28) at Dharan-8. Bista sustained serious injuries on his stomach.

The same elephant pulled elder Budhathoki with its trunk and threw her some 200 feet away from her house at 10 pm killing her instantly, said SP Khanal.

Those injured are Krishna Bahadur Pariyar and Sher Bahadur Shrestha. All injured persons are undergoing treatment in the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan.

The elephant terrorised people until three in the morning in Dharan municipality, said SP Khanal, adding that the tusker then went into the forest.

Meanwhile, a report from Morang said, one died from the attack of wild elephant in Charkosejhadi at Kerabari (Morang) yesterday.

Narendra Pandey (45), a resident of Kerabari- 2 died while a wild elephant trampled him in the jungle, said a local, Ram Awatar Thakur.
