Rajbiraj, December 11
With the change in weather, the residents of rural and urban areas of Saptari district have been facing hardship following the excessive cold since five days.
Life in the district has been badly affected after the thick fog and cold wave increased. Children and elderly citizens have been affected the most due to excessive cold.
Workers in various health facilities including Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, Rajbiraj said that the patients suffering from cold related diseases like asthma, cough and cold, pneumonia and diarrhoea have increased in the health facilities since some days. They further added that 10 to 15 seasonal patients visit the hospitals for treatment on a daily basis. It is said that as many as 13 persons had lost their lives due to the excessive cold in Saptari last year.
The locals do not come out from their houses due to the thick fog following the cold wave. Peoples’ movement in chowks and the markets has decreased. It is said that the locals have started warming themselves near the fires in different chowks. Entrepreneurs said that the sale of heaters, among other items, has increased.
Bus entrepreneurs said that they were compelled to park their vehicles on the road side and garages after the number of passengers fell due to the clod.
Dinesh Prasad Sah of Sagarmatha Transport Entrepreneurs Association said passengers had decrease and almost all the vehicles were parked in the garages due to the lack of passengers.
Meanwhile, locals have demanded firewood to warm themselves in different chowks from the administration. They have also sought warm clothes for needy.
