Winter shelters for temblor-hit

Winter Shelters for earthquake victims, who lost their houses in the devastating temblor of April 25 and its powerful aftershocks, will be built in five VDCs in Kavre.
Department of Urban Development and Building Construction has directed the building division office to establish community buildings for quake victims.
Division officer Astalal Suwal said that the community buildings were going to be constructed at five different VDCs, which were above 1,500 metres, in the district.
It is said that the buildings will be built at Shikhar Aambote, Chaubas, Kalanti, Bhumidanda, Chyamshikharka and Dhuseni Shivalaya VDCs in the first phase.
The community buildings, which will have the separate bathrooms for male and female, will be established in half ropani land.
The department said that the shelters will be constructed in VDCs that are above 1,500 metres above sea level aiming to protect the victims from the biting cold.
It is learnt that the buildings will be handed over to the local community once the construction is completed. The Division Office Kavre said that total amount required for construction of one such building would be Rs 39 lakh.
The office further said that a tender had been called for contractor companies, mentioning that the construction has to be completed within one month.
