Women Commission initiates campaign to expand relations with media

RATNANAGAR: The National Women Commission (NWC) has started a campaign to expand relations with media on Wednesday.

NWC Member Bhagawati Ghimire shared that the nationwide media relations building campaign was launched to increase women participation in media.

At a discussion with media workers on the first day, legal expert at NWC Saroj Raj Thapa said though the media have not put women's issues on top priority, the coverage nowadays is relatively positive than before.

The 16-day programme against gender-based violence is taking place in the country under the leadership of the NWC. As part of the intiative, the NWC is building relations with media across the country.

Thapa further informed that they have also run school education programme side by side. She shared that 1,003 complaints were filed at the NWC in the past five years.

On the occasion, senior vice-president of Nepal Press Union Deepak Acharya said the incidents of gender-based violence would minimise if special arrangements are made for women considering gender sensitive issues.
