Women’s confidence team, others scale Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse

KATHMANDU: With the opening of a climbing route to the summit of Mt Everest on Sunday, the world climbers have continued their final summit pushes to the roof of the world.

Tilak Ram Pandey, a liaison officer at the base camp shared that at least 94 climbers scaled Mt Everest today.

According to the Ascent Himalayan Trek and Expedition, Lakpa Yangji Sherpa, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa and Yangdi Sherpa scaled Mt Everest at around 11:30 am. The Sherpa women were part of the Women Everest Expedition – 2018 and they climbed the mountain with a slogan of Women’s Confidence, Lakpa Sherpa said. Their expedition also aimed at providing financial support to Dalit, single, and oppressed women who have returned home from foreign employment, along with attracting them toward tourism sector for income generation that would ultimately make them self-reliant.

Pasang Sherpa, Chairman at Pioneer Adventure Treks and Expedition, Mongolian climber Byambasuren Bambi, Australian woman climber Samantha McMahon, Chinese climber Changjuan Hi and Nepali climbers Prakash Raj Pandey and Chokey Sherpa scaled Mt Everest this morning. "Lakpa Thendu Sherpa, Guesman Tamang, Mingma Dorji Sherpa, Tsering Bhote and Pemba Dorji Sherpa accompanied the expedition members to the summit point,” he added.

According to him, three women climbers from Pioneer Adventure also made it to the summit of Mt Lhotse this morning. “Taiwani climber Fish Tri, Sylwai Bajek (Poland) and Priyanka Mangesh (India) along with their climbing guides – Lakpa Sherpa, Pasang Sanu and Nima Thenduk Sherpa sttod atop the world’s fourth highest mountain,” he shared.

Phurba Tenjing Sherpa, Managing Director at Dreamers Destination Pvt. Ltd informed that world record holder climber Kami Rita Sherpa and 17-time Everest summiter Pemba Dorje Sherpa today placed a statue of the late King Prithivi Narayan Shah, the unifier of modern Nepal, at the roof of the world. “Pemba Dorje had placed late King’s portrait at the summit point last year,” Sherpa informed, adding that he had also scaled the peak with a statue of Gautam Buddha in 2009.

At least our Chinese climbers - Xio Jun Wu, Xingfeng Lian, Leichen Bian and Chin Wui Kin along Pemba Dorje, Lakpa Nuru Sherpa and Bis Bahadur Gurung successfully climbed Mt Everest this morning, he added. Nima Namgyal Sherpa of Kaitu Everest Expedition shared that at least six expedition members with eight climbing Sherpas scaled Mt Everest.

At least 39 climbers including 18 foreigners had reached the summit on Monday after eight Sherpas opened the route to the top of the world.
