Work on Kabeli A project gathers momentum

Work on Kabeli A hydropower project that was earlier disrupted due to dispute between the project and the locals has resumed lately. The work resumed after the dispute was settled.

Project sources said construction work of the project’s infrastructure has resumed. They said construction of roads in Panchthar’s Amarpur and Panchami and Taplejung’s Thechambu and Nangkholyang VDCs has been completed recently.

The 37.6 megawatts project is estimated to cost around Rs 10 billion. Butwal Power Company, a domestic company, and Singapore’s InfraCo company have 56 and 44 per cent stake in the project respectively.

The project located on the Kabeli river between Panchthar and Taplejung, will channel water through a 4 km tunnel to a powerhouse to be built in Amarpur-9, Pinasighat.

According to Butwal Power Company Director and Kabeli Hydropower Energy Pvt Ltd Chairman Pradip Kumar Shrestha, mechanical work of the project will start soon.

“The Chinese companies hired for mechanical work will start their work after Tihar festival,” he said, adding the project will move ahead by addressing the demand of the locals.
