Work to open Kaligandaki highway gets momentum

PARBAT: The track opening job of the Kaligandaki Highway along the Setibeni-Mirmi section is likely to complete within this fiscal year if things go ahead as planned.

The 1,200 metre track of the highway from Setibeni in Parbat to Pidikhola-Mirmi in Syangja would be opened by mid-July, according to the Palpa-based corridor office of the highway.

Chief of the project Guru Prasad Adhikari said that support from the Nepal Army has been taken to blast rocks in the area in order to open a track of 400 metres.

The tasks of explosions started from Saturday. Lawmakers Bikash Lamsal from Parbat-2 and Mukti Prasad Pathak from Syangja-3 jointly marked the beginning of the explosions.

The 377-km-long Kaligandaki Highway would connect Sunauli in the south to Koralla, the Nepal-Tibet border in Mustang district.
