WORLD INDIGENOUS DAY: All Nepalis will flourish in republic, says Nembang
Kathmandu, August 9:
Speaker Subas Nembang today said that the country was heading towards a federal republican set-up, guaranteeing the inclusion of all indigenous nationalities and other groups.
“The parliament has created a basis for the constituent assembly elections by passing the related laws,” Nembang said at a mass meeting organised by the National Network of Indigenous Women (NNIW) to mark the 15th World Indigenous Day and the First National Conference of Indigenous Women. Taken out from Basantapur Dabali, the rally went through various parts of the city before converging into a mass meeting at the Nepal Academy. Nembang said, “The recent agreement between the government and the indigenous nationalities has created a basis for the inclusion of all races, groups and languages in the constituent assembly.”
Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Nepal, Tamrat Samuel, said that Nepal’s Janajati communities have a responsibility to look to those most marginalised within the community and in particular to ensure that women are able to fully and equally participate in the political process at all levels.
