YCL cadres attack 10th grader with khukuris

DHADING: Cadres of Young Communist League (YCL) thrashed a tenth grader after forcibly taking him out from classroom when examination was in progress here in Dhading yesterday.

Fifteen-year-old Bir Bahadur Tamang, who is also known as Raman, of Darkha VDC -- a tenth grader in Bachchhala Devi Higher Secondary School in Satyadevi VDC, was seriously injured in the beating. Eyewitnesses said the Maoists attacked him with khukuri. Besides serious injuries all over the body, he also had his leg broken in the assault.

Tamang is a supporter of ANNFSU, affiliated to CPN-UML.Tamang was brought to the district headquarters for treatment from where he was referred to Kathmandu.

In the wake of the brutal attack on its activists, the UML student wing called for Dhading bandh today. The ANNFSU demanded to take stringent action against the culprits and compensation for the victim. The district headquarters remained shut throughout the day due to the bandh call.

Dhading UML has claimed that Tamang was attacked by the group of YCL cadres led by “Kumar” at around 1 pm. According to the party, the Maoist cadres have been threatening the supporters of UML of physical action in different villages accusing that the UML cadres were involved in a quarrel in Darkha village when Maoist cadre Santa Bahadur Tamang was shot at four days ago.
