Youth convicted of 80yo granny's murder

LAMJUNG: A 31-year-old youth has been convicted of his grandmother's murder and sentenced for life here along two accomplices here in Lamjung.

The Lamjung District Court found Shakti Bishal Pant aka Sujan and two local youth--Prakash Nepali (26) and Chij Kumar Shrestha aka Arjun(22)-- guilty of  the cold-blooded murder of 80-year-old Rom Kumari Pant and slapped 20-year term on them.

A bench of district judge, Arjun Adhikari, issued final verdict in the case on Sunday, according to Harigopal Gyawali, an official at the District Court.

The octogenarian was murdered in Dauliyadanda of Tarkhughat-5 on April 7, according to police.

Her body was found in a pit used to dispose cow dung after biogas generation.

The Court observed that a local woman, identified as Mandira Shrestha (26), who was a witness of the incident intentionally tried to hide it and slapped a fine of Rs 20 on her.

The three suspects were already in police custody while Shrestha was released on bail earlier.

Police investigation revealed that Pant was the mastermind behind the murder.

Luring them into temptation of money, Pant sought the help of Nepali and Shrestha to get rid of her elderly grandmother.

They had consumed alcohol before killing her, according to police.
