Youth killed in gang fight

Kathmandu, July 2:

A 21-year-old college student died today, succumbing to injuries he sustained in a gang fight last night. Seven arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Two gangs, one led by Saroj Thapa of Pingalasthan, and another led by Bhawendra Rai, had a scuffle at Pingalasthan last night. According to Jayraj Sapkota, inspector at the Metropolitan Police Sector, Gaushala, Rai’s men had taken Thapa to Sinamangal but he managed to give them the slip and collected his friends at Pingalasthan.

Sapkota added that both groups, armed with weapons, engaged in a fight at midnight where Thapa, student of Brilliant College at Chabahil, was injured. He was brought to Bir Hospital, where he died this morning, the police said.

The police nabbed Bhawendra Rai, of Sankhusabha, and Bikash Gurung, 21, of Battisputali from a hospital at Attarkhel. “Rai had been undergoing treatment while Gurung had gone there to meet him,” Sapkota said. Rai is a Grade X student at Sharada Secondary School in Sinamangal. Five others have also been arrested, police said.
