KATHMANDU: The fate of the Top 6 bands in the Sprite Band Challenge 2 rests not only with the judges but also with their audience and fans as the public get to vote for their favourite band(s) via SMS (2722).
The bands have been performing in various restaurants around the Capital to win audience’s hearts and showcase their talent.
On November 18 the bands performed two songs each. They were asked to perform at least one self-composed song while Baptizma, Sound Cuddles and The Time performed both original numbers. This round had singer Sugam Pokhrel as the guest judge for the day.
With their usual rocking attitude, Inflected rendered Sakdina by Abhaya and Steam Injuns, which impressed the judges. Similarly, their self composed song Adhuro also gained appreciation from the judges. With both self-composed songs Aama and Sano Sansar, Baptizma rocked the stage. Though their first performance could not sufficiently convince the judges, their second performance was well appreciated.
The Time with a fusion of classical and rock began Artha with the sitar, which was liked by the judges but were urged to bring ‘commerciality’ in it while their self-composed number Chot could not convince the judges.
Improvising on Pokhrel’s Mero euta sathi chha, Dead Bone impressed the singer but not the other judges. However, their self-composed Kada yo mutuma not only ple-ased the judges, but they also complimented the vocalist.
The judges found it a comfortable and safe performance when Kalash improvised Rama Rama by Yogeshwor Amatya. However, they compensated with their original number Sadhai lai, which compelled the judges to give better remarks. Sound Cuddles was yet another band to intensify the excitement with their self-composed number Doobi hera, which was well appreciated by the judges while their another original song Pailo Prem could not impress the judges.
“After going through the Top 6 bands’ performances, we think we have chosen the
best bands so far. Moreover, these bands are already in the competition with established ones,” said Abhaya Subba, one of the judges.
Another judge Robin Tamang urged the audience to vote for the bands on the basis of their performances.
The bands’ live performances in restaurants will be aired on Kantipur Television at 9:00 pm on November 25.
