KATHMANDU: Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari complained on Wednesday that some of the provisions in the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA), have hindered the daily functioning of the Nepal Army (NA).

While speaking at the State Affairs Committee of the Legislature Parliament, as summoned by them to brief on issues relating to the NA, she also demanded immediate revision of its provisions saying that it has been severly affecting the competitiveness of the NA.

She also said that CPA provisions such as the ban on arm purchase and new recruitments in the vacant posts have hindered regular training which in turn has affected the strengthening of NA and even participation in the UN peace keeping mission.

The CPA provisions have prohibited arm purchase and new recruitments in vacant posts of both NA and Maoist fighters (Peoples Liberation Army).
