BIRGUNJ: Birgunj police on Thursday night rescued an Indian national after 22 days in captivity.
The police rescued Ram Lochan Yadav, 22, of Sisawa Sonaha VDC-3, Motiyari district of India from nearby Singhayahi river of Hariharpur VDC-6, Parsa district.
A police squad deployed from Area Police Office Ektanga succeeded in rescuing Yadav, Parsa police spokesperson and police inspector Bhuwaneshwor Yadav informed. The kidnappers fled when they saw the police personnel approaching, the inspector further said.
Captive Yadav informed the police that he was kidnapped by his brothers in an act of revenge following a family dispute a year ago. He accused Jokhan Yadav, Rajendra Yadav and Jeevan Yadav of being involved in the kidnapping.
“We have informed his family members about his whereabouts, we will hand him over once they arrive. He is safe with us till then,” police inspector Shah said indicating Yadav.
In another incident, the police detained a youth in possession of 90 grams of brown sugar from Maisthan Chowk, Birgunj sub-metropolitan city-11.
A police squad deployed under the command of chief constable Resham Karki held Ram Babu Sonar of Chapkaiya-1, Birgunj while undergoing body search of tempo passengers from Rakshaul.
The police are interrogating Sonar in a bid to uncover the racket behind the drug deal.
