KATHMANDU: Continuing the recent trend of attacks on the media, a group of journalists were attacked by Maoist cadres in Nepalgunj on Tuesday.

The group which comprised FNJ general secretary Ramji Dahal, Kiran Nepal, editor of the Himal Khabar Patrika, managing editor Indra Shrestha and journalist Rameshwor Bohora were on their way from Nepalgunj airport to a programme organised by the FNJ in Nepalgunj on Tuesday, when they were attacked by cadres of the UCPN-Maoists affiliated, All Nepal National Independent Students' Union--Revolutionary (ANNISU-R). While nobody was injured in the attack, the vehicle was damaged.

Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) demanded action against those behind the assault.

Meanwhile, FNJ also deplored and demanded a probe on a previous attack on Anil Thakur, news sub-editor of Rautahat FM and reporter Kanhaiya Jha at Bairganiya of Rautahat district bordering India on Sunday.

Similarly, FNJ condemned the attack on Manohar Pokrel, Saptari FNJ representative and editor and managing editor of Ajako Batabaran daily and Sagarmatha Awaj a week ago while reporting news at Saptari District Police Office. Due the attack, Pokhrel had sustained injuries on his head.
