KATHMANDU: The main opposition, UCPN-Maoist, today demanded clear stance of the government on the integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants living in UNMIN-monitored camps.
Maoist representatives in the Special Committee on Supervision, Rehabilitation and Integration sought the government’s stance after Defence Minister Bidhya Devi Bhandari said on Tuesday that bulk entry of the Maoist fighters was not possible in the Nepali Army.
PM Madhav Kumar Nepal told the Maoist leaders that Bhandari’s statement was purely personal and her statements did not reflect the government position.
Barshaman Pun “Ananta,” who is one of the members of the Special Committee, said the Defence Minister’s statement was planned to jeopardise the peace process and constitution-making process.
“The Special Committee’s decision will be meaningless unless the government clarifies its stance on the issue,” Pun said
