DHANGADHI: Around 80 flood-hit families in Dhansinghpur VDC -2 in Kailali went without food today. Neither do they have proper clothes to cover themselves as all their
belongings have been swept away.
Their only ray of hope for relief also got dashed. They had reached the VDC office by boat. But the Maoist cadres obstructed the distribution of relief in Tikapur Municipality and Narayanpur VDC.
Yesterday, the District Disaster Rescue Committee had dispatched relief materials for 4,000 families in Tikapur Municipality and Narayanpur and Dhan Singhahpur VDCs, which were slated to be distributed in Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal’s presence.
“The Maoists threatened me not to distribute the relief materials. Motiram Jaisi, a local Maoist leader, led the team,” alleged Gagan Singh Thakulla, VDC secretary.
Tej Shankar Bhatta, chairman, Nepal Red Cross Society, Narayanpur Chapter, said that preparations were made to distribute 15 kg of rice, 2 kg of lentil, a kg of salt and a litre of cooking oil to each of the flood-affected household in Bangaun.
Harikrishna Poudel, CDO, Kailali, said that the relief was earmarked for 1,250 families each in Tikapur Municipality and Narayanpur VDC. “While, the rest was for 1,500 families in Dhansinghpur,” he added.
Though the PM was supposed to be present during the distribution ceremony, he could not make it due to other engagements.
Sharwanand Chapai, secretary, Narayanpur VDC, alleged that the Maoists deprived the flood-hit of their relief materials.
“Motiram Jaisi, the local leader of the Maoists, was the real troublemaker,” Chapai added.
