LALITPUR: As a means to mount pressure on central power for a People’s Republic, the Maoists are soon going to stage a fight-to-the-finish battle in the Kathmandu valley, said Dr Baburam Bhattarai, the vice-chairman of the Unified CPN-Maoist on Wednesday.
"The Kathmandu-centric battle would be a decisive one for establishment of a People’s Republic," said Dr Bhattarai, while addressing a function organised by Newa National Liberation Front at Lalitpur.
He further said the nation has been rapidly polarising into two opposing forces -- progressive and regressive forces. “Both the regressive and progressive forces are heading to a deadly confrontation,” he added.
Dr Bhattarai also criticised the comments made by Nepali Congress Chairman Girija Prasad Koirala who had insisted that the federalism along ethnic line would split the country.
“The NC still harbours feudalistic ideology of the Prithvi Narayan Shah time,” he added.
