KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala was admitted to Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre today after he complained of breathing difficulty. According to hospital sources, his condition had not improved till late in the evening.
Following his ‘unstable’ condition, Koirala’s tomorrow’s trip to Singapore for treatment has been cancelled. Koirala had been feeling difficulty in breathing since Monday evening. Hospital sources said Koirala would take time to show improvement due to his age.
“He has lung infection, in addition to chronic asthma,” read a statement issued by director of the centre Dr Arun Maskey this evening.
Dr Maskey said, “The level of oxygen in his blood has fallen, as such the level of oxygen given to him has been increased.” Koirala, a chronic patient of pneumonia, has been using oxygen for a few years whenever he feels difficulty in respiration.
NC leaders Sher Bahadur Deuba and Sushil Koirala, DPM Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar and NC workers went to the hospital to enquire about Koirala’s health.
Doctors Mana Bahadur KC, Yadav Dev Bhatta, Ravi Malla and Diwakar Sharma, besides Koirala’s personal physicians Arjun Karki and Jagadish Agrawal, are attending to Koirala.
