KATHMANDU: Nepali cricket’s woes continue with its lackluster performance in its first match of the ACCT20 Elite Cup tournament that saw the side concede a six wicket loss to archrival Malaysia at the Sharjah Cricket Ground in UAE on Sunday.
Batting first, Nepal posted a mediocre 112 runs losing seven wickets in the maximum 20 overs. But this total never looked sufficient enough to defend the match as Malaysia cruised to what was their first -ever victory over Nepal.
With an impressive show on the field, Malaysia went past the target with 14 balls to spare.
Nepali all-rounder Mehboob Alam scored 31 runs while Gyanendra Mall and Paresh Lohani contributed 20 and 19 runs each respectively.
Paceman Binod Das and all rounder Paras had some success with the ball taking one wicket apiece. Similarly, spin duo Sanjam Regmi and Shakti Gauchan bagged claimed one wicket each but that was all.
Nepal , in its second match, will take on Kuwait on Monday
