KATHMANDU: A seven wicket victory over Bahrain in its last group match on Saturday could not help Nepal’s cause. On a poor run rate, Nepal failed to make it to the semifinals of the ongoing ACC T20 Elite CUP tournament being organised in the Gulf country of the Unisted Arab Emirates.
Taking the field first, Neal restricted Bahrain to a healthy 157 runs and successfully got past the score in the 18the over its innings. Nepal lost opener Mehaboob Alam for a duck.
However, the middle order batsman Gyanendra Malla and skipper Parask Khadka, who was later adjudged the man of the match, came to the team’s rescue with each of them contributing 48 and 47 off their bats respectively. Dipendra Chaudhary also chipped in with valuable 43 runs.
Oman entered the semifinals, topping the point chart, while Nepal and Kuwait were tied at 6 at the end of the preliminary matches. Kuwait advanced to the next round on a better run rate.
