KATHMANDU: CPN-UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal on Saturday denied any discussion held regarding the change of government in the meeting of the High Level Political Mechanism.

Inaugurating the sixth district conference of the Bhaktapur chapter of the party, Khanal said, “We dwelt on forging consensus over the issues of national concerns in the HLPM meeting on Friday but no discussion was held over the change of the government.”

Saying that the Unified CPN-Maoist did not raise the issue for the change of the government, Khanal said, “As the HLPM’s major task is to draw consensus on contentious issues among the parties, it did not hold any discussion on changing the guard of the government.”

In the same token, Khanal denied any discussion held in the party to change the incumbent government. He accused the media for baselessly creating a rumour that a campaign was launched to collect signature to change the government in the party. He termed it as the propaganda of media.

“I have no information of the signature collection campaign in the party to change the government so far,” Khanal said, adding that the media publicised it without checking the fact.

Khanal stressed the need for timely promulgation of the statute and taking the peace process to a logical end.
