KATHMANDU: The meeting of Legislature Parliament commenced on Monday after five months of disruption by the main opposition UCPN-Maoist.
Speaking in the House, Maoist Deputy Parliamentary Party leader and vice chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said his party has let the House resume so that the budget can be passed. He added that the Maoists are in the third phase of their protest programme as the ruling coalition has not given attention to the political crisis in the country. He alleged that there are many conspiracies to make the Maoists surrender, but the Maoists will not surrender to those factors which are against the nation.
He was of the view that the move of the President should be corrected at any cost otherwise the Maoists will launch an indefinite general strike and stage a severe agitation. He also threatened the ruling allies saying that their condition will become like former king Gyanendra if they undermine the Maoist demands. However, he repeated the party's commitment to the peace process and writing the new constitution in the given time frame.
The main opposition party Maoist decided to let the parliament function only for three days from Monday in order to pass the annual budget of fiscal year 2009/10. The budget will be passed tomorrow after a discussion.
