KATHMANDU: The Brahmin-Chhetri Joint Struggle Committee (BCJSC) on Friday demanded the Tribhuvan University (TU) scrap the provision of reservation on lecturers’ opening advertised early this month.

Organizing a press conference today the coordinator of the BCJSC, Suman Baskota, said the reservation provision on appointing lecturers was not in practice in any countries.

"The lecturers should be hired through free competition on the basis of sheer merit for enhancement of the quality of university education,” said Baskota, adding that doing so would be a regressive act as well as degrade the university education.

He demanded that the professors' appointment process should be fair and highly qualified people only should be hired.

Similarly the vacancy of professors should be announced on the basis of student ration and demand of subject among student, he stated.

They have also demanded for transparency of TU Service Commission.

Expressing solidarity with the demands of BCJSC, Chhetri Student Society has padlocked the Service Commission for an indefinite period since Thursday.
